School House Historical Sites

Hay Jay One-Room Schoolhouse District No. 3

The Hay Jay One-room Schoolhouse is unchanged from 1901. Donated to the historical society in early 1970s by the Hay Jay Association. For GPS purposes the Hay Jay One Room Schoolhouse address is 18441 Co Rd 8.

 

Visiting Hours
1st Sunday of each month May through October 1 pm to 4 pm.

Driving Directions
Turnpike Exit 13, travel north on State Route 15 to US 20 turn left, proceed to Co. Rd. 8 go right 2.5 miles.

 

Hopewell Indian Mounds Ancient Hopewell Indian Mounds

The ancient Hopewell Mounds are located west of Nettle Lake, near a woods along a quiet stream. These mounds are the most northern known in Ohio. This site is in the National Register of Historic Places. For GPS purposes the address for the Mounds is 18482 Co Rd 4-75.

May through October (dawn to dusk)

Driving Directions
Turnpike Exit 13 north on State Route 15 to US 20 turn left. Go to Co. Rd. 5 turn right, turn left on Q.50, turn right on Co. Rd. 4.75. Past Nettle Lake boat ramp, approx. one mile. Turn right at Indian Mounds sign.


Log Cabin

Jacob Young Log House (Also known as the Kunkle Log House)

 Constructed in about 1845, this unique two-story log house contains a basement and a birthing room. For GPS purposes the Kunkle Log House address is 17712 Co Rd O.

Turnpike Exit 13 north on State Route 15, turn right on Co. Rd. O, one mile east of Kunkle

Quaker Meeting House

Quaker Meeting House

Constructed in the early 1800s, this church is among the oldest in Williams County and the only known Quaker Meeting House in Northwest Ohio. For GPS Purposes the Quaker Meeting House address is 13936 Co Rd 21 N.

Driving Directions
Turnpike Exit 13 south on State Route 15 to US 20A and State Route 107 intersection. Turn left. Pass thru West Unity to Co. Rd. 21N. Turn left 2 miles. (Hint: Co. Rd. 21N is east of Co. Rd. 22).
