Capture of Major Andre "The Capture of Major Andre"
by: Otto Brinkman

This painting recounts the story of three, yound soldiers during the Revolutionary War. They detained a Britsh officer (in the red coat) who was carring plans of West Point that he received from General Benedict Arnold to deliver the Britsh. Their heroism helped turn the tide against the British. Their names were: Issac Van Wert, John Paulding, and David Williams. Williams County is named after Williams. The painting was donated to our permanent collection by Judge Maxwell and the County Commisioners.

Great Locomotive Chase

William Knight a Stryker, Ohio native, was the Engineer in the Great Locomotive Chase or Andrew's Raid during the Civil War.

Knight and the men he served with were part of the first group to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Pictured are personal possessions of Knight's that are part of our permanent collection.

The Museum Collection will be changing to feature more of our permanemt collection.

The Acquisitions Committee is always in search of artifacts for our collection and educational holdings.  Please contact WCHS before sending artifacts; staff members will be able to determine whether or not similar items have been donated and if the items are within  WCHS' collection policy.
