History of the Society
The Williams County Historical Society was founded in 1956 by a group of citizens interested in identifying the various sites of historical interest in the county. Although the society also wanted to have a museum in which to preserve artifacts, it took another twelve years to achieve this goal. Over time, the Society has expanded to include a number of historic sites, including the Hopewell Indian Mounds, the Kunkle Log House, the Quaker Meeting House, and the Hay Jay School House.
| WCHS supports current and ongoing programs including presentations associated with special exhibits, school history tours, lectures, and plays. Our programs offer educational opportunities for children and adults through interactive exhibits and hands-on learning. |
